Ural Australia is pleased to offer you an affordable choice in sidecars for pre-'69 BMW motorcycles.
These Russian manufactured sidecars are a decendant of the famous Wehrmacht sidecar. The most obvious deviation from that design is the simplified mudguard and change from leafspring to rubber suspension on the boat, and of course the fact that they are Left Hand fitting.
Unlike the modern, fibreglass, "refugee from a Star Wars
movie" - styled outfits, the Ural complements the styling
of your classic or vintage BMW perfectly. If your a vintage enthusiast
then you'll have nothing but disdain for plastic, futuristic shapes,
and tiny wheels on sidecars. The Ural has none of those negative
features. The boat and mudguard is constructed entirely of heavy
gauge steel and nicely finished with hand pinstriping or a two-tone
paint job. The wheel and the optional spare are either 18"
or 19". Currently lefthand chairs are unbraked, but we hope
to be able to soon offer a simple, fully adjustable, mechanically
activated brake on the sidecar wheel. The brake will be activated
via levers and bellcranks from a lefthand foot brake pedal on
the sidecar, or it may be adapted as a parking brake.
The Ural attaches with Steib-style ball and
claw clamps at both lower mounting points and it uses a clevis
arrangement on both upper mounts. Once properly lined up and all
the adjustments locked in place, the chair can be removed from
the bike in about 20 minutes.
